The official announcement of Connor McGregor’s return to the octagon has the MMA world buzzing.

LAS VEGAS (April. 16, 2024) – In the days following UFC 300, it’s apparent that the most anticipated fight card in company history did not disappoint. With 8 of the 13 matches on the night ending by finish, it was a night filled with spectacular moments and exciting matches, However, a big question for many MMA fans is how do you follow up on future fight cards after putting on one of the most exciting nights in MMA history?

 

 

If you’re Dana White, you start by announcing the return of possibly the biggest name in all of combat sports.

 

 

Following the end of the main event of UFC 300 on Saturday, the president of the UFC Dana White made some major announcements for future UFC events. It was then that White officially declared that Connor McGregor and Michael Chandler would finally happen at UFC 303 on June. 29. The former two-division champion McGregor will be fighting for the first time since his loss against Dustin Poirier in June of 2021, which ended in the first round after the brash Irishman suffered a brutal leg injury that forced a referee stoppage.

 

 

Coincidentally, this will also be Michael Chandler's first fight since losing to Dustin Poirier in 2022. After losing three of his last four fights, the Missouri native will be looking to pick up a much-needed victory against McGregor at Welterweight.

 

 

For both fighters, this match could prove to be career-altering. For Chandler, a win against the immensely popular McGregor could put his name back into the main event scene and would solidify his case for a title fight at either Lightweight or Welterweight. For McGregor, a win in his long-awaited return to the Octagon could bolster his status as one of the greatest fighters of all time and could also put him right back into the championship conversation he was in before suffering his injury against Poirier.

 

Regardless of the result of the fight, UFC 303 is already turning heads months in advance.
